The resurgence at Yahoo continues, with new data showing the firm made $768 million in mobile-ad revenue last year and may be on track to join other tech giants in exceeding $1 billion this year.
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has banked on mobile to turn the company around.
Since she joined, the company has ramped up its mobile team from 50 to 500 people and refreshed a number of its apps—Weather, Sports, and Games—to rave reviews.
Yahoo made strategic acquisitions last year that are sure to lead to even more mobile ad revenue in 2015. In July, it bought mobile analytics firm Flurry.
In November, it acquired BrightRoll, a video-advertising platform.
Last month, Yahoo announced that it plans to use those services to display ads on apps from third-party mobile developers.
According to Forester, mobile advertising in the U.S. will total $40 billion by 2019. eMarketer estimates that online mobile ad spending in 2014 was at $18.99 billion.
In order to capitalize on this trend, Yahoo launched the unified ad market place for mobile search and native display advertising in February last year.
