EBay is looking at acquisition opportunities in Japan and China, as the online marketplace looks to expand in the lucrative Asian markets.
Asia is expected to become the growth engine in the coming years with around one-third of global sales coming from there.
eBay Inc expects sales from greater China to grow 30-40 per cent annually from about $4 billion in 2010.
At present, the e-commerce business in China is dominated by Alibaba Group and E-Commerce China Dangdang Inc.
The online auctioneer has been engaged in mergers and acquisition activity for some time now.
Earlier this month, it completed the acquisition of open source ecommerce platform Magento, for undisclosed terms.
