European startup Menu Next Door has secured $2 million round of funding from Index Ventures, Local Globe, Kima Ventures, and TheFamily to expand its novel approach to food delivery.
The app lets you “explore what’s cooking in your neighborhood,” relying on a user’s neighbours to prepare meals for a price set by them.
After Brussels and Paris, the start-up that’s letting urban dwellers cook for their neighbours in London, starting from last month.
It currently boasts 900 home cooks — 600 in Belgium and another 300 in France.
Once the order is placed, the customer
1- Can decide whether to pay online or cash payment upon meeting their chef
2- Receives a confirmation with the pick-up address (where the ‘chef’ is actually living and cooking) by text and email
3- Just has to show-up at the timeslot she/he selected when placing their order on www.menunextdoor.co.uk
4- Is welcomed by the chef, leaving space for a chat and a drink before she/he
5- Heads home with the portions ordered, and enjoy their dinner in the comfort of their home.
Current prices put meals at €10 – £9 on average per portion (starter + main course, main course + dessert or starter + main + dessert)
Each meal can be rated, with 4.9/5 stars proving to be the average rating of the meal and the warmth of their welcome.
