The Cannes Debate is a regular highlight of the festival, and this year it featured giants of marketing, film and sports looking at the role of commercial creativity in an ever-more digital world.
The Lumiere Theatre played host to this year’s Cannes Debate, featuring Sir Martin Sorrell, Robert Kraft and Ron Howard.
Academy award winner for Apollo 13, Ron Howard had just been unveiled as the man behind the camera for the new Star Wars’ Han Solo film. He discussed his career and the attitude he takes to every project: “Every one of these projects we’ve ever done is always entrepreneurial, every one of these projects is a startup, every movie, every documentary, every pilot or series is a startup.”
In a wide-ranging discussion of the intersecting worlds of sport, cinema and marketing communications, the trio covered many subjects from making Oscar-winning films and taking the NFL’s greatest prize to the role of commercial creativity in supporting the sports and entertainment industries.
