Nearly a fifth (17%) of football fans will watch Euro 2016 matches on mobile, with mobile games and sports apps the most popular second screening activities, according t0 new research.
With the Euros well underway Opera Mediaworks, the mobile advertising and marketing platform, is releasing “Mobile at Euro 2016”, a study that reveals how UK football fans will be using their mobile devices during this year’s UEFA Euro football tournament.
These stats offer insight for mobile marketers on how to reach UK football fans during the Euro competition.
Highlights include:
• Nearly a fifth (17%) of football fans will watch the match on their mobile
o 90% on broadcast TV
o 13% on desktop/laptop
• Over 40% of viewers will stay up-to-date on Euro news (highlights, clips, stats) via mobile apps
• Browsing sports apps and playing games will be the most popular mobile pursuits whilst watching Euro matches
• 44% will spend most of their time on news/sports apps during a Euro 2016 match
o Over half of fans will get their updates in the evening
• Among Millennials
o 20% plan to place a bet on the outcome of a Euro 2016 match this year via mobile apps
o 33% are very likely to look up an ad after seeing it on TV during Euro 2016 coverage
