Despite the rise of mobile apps such an Instagram, WhatsApp and SnapChat, US and UK teens have picked YouTube as the coolest social network, according to a new survey.
The study, from GlobalWebIndex, also shows that Facebook still lacks the ‘cool’ factor for youngsters.
Just 14% of teens (defined here as 16-19s) name Facebook as the “coolest” network, far behind the average across all ages.
Facebook-owned Instagram is the second “coolest” network for teens, giving more vindication for Facebook’s decision to purchase it.
Snapchat is notably ahead of either WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.
Yahoo-owned Tumblr also performs much better among teens than it does among the general online population.
