Facebook is launching a new ‘Save’ feature that lets users bookmark content for later viewing, as the social network looks to boost engagement (and ad spend) on its site.
Facebook software engineer Daniel Giambalvo announced Save in a blog post:
“Every day, people find all sorts of interesting items on Facebook that they don’t have time to explore right away. Now you can save items that you find on Facebook to check out later when you have more time. You can save items like links, places, movies, TV and music. Only you can see the items you save unless you choose to share them with friends.”
By tapping/clicking the arrow in the top right corner of the post, people can indicate that they want to save the content.
To go back to this content, users can go back to the “More” screen (the button on the right side) and scroll down to “Saved.”
There, Facebook organizes saved content by type. On desktop, a link to saved content will be on the left side of News Feed.
Facebook’s Save feature might draw comparisons to other bookmarking sites such as Pocket, Instapaper, and Pinterest.
