Simon Cowell has taken his search for the next musical superstar online, asking artists to take part a new viral singing competition, You Generation.
The TV and music mogul’s company Syco is teaming up with the YouTube channel to enable people to show off talents which may not be recognised by traditional TV shows, such as make-up artists or doing trick shots.
The new global talent search online lets people to show off their singing talents with video auditions on YouTube.
The You Generation contest – expected to launch in late March – will continue for at least a year and will seek out a different skill each fortnight with each vying for an “amazing prize”. An overall winner after the first 52 weeks will be given a further reward.
An official statement from his record label Syco said: “The channel offers people with unconventional and original talents the opportunity to become the next internet star.”
It will be “the first global audition process” giving people the chance to “show off their outstanding skills”.
A Syco spokesman added: “We are calling it an exciting experiment. We don’t know where it could go.”
The You Generation contest goes live on Wednesday (20.03.13), with auditions every two weeks in a different talent category and the results will be broadcast in 15 languages and 26 countries around the world.
