Twitter’s chief executive Dick Costolo has confirmed to the New York Times that the company is working on a tool that will allow users to export and download their entire archive of tweets.
Currently users can only browse back through a limited number of their past tweets and the site provides no native way to export them. Third-party tools, and apps such as politwoops (for political figures) and Oldtweets do exist but are limited by how and when people use them.
However, Mr. Costolo also confirmed that there are no current plans for Twitter to let users trawl through the site’s entire archive.
“It’s two different search problems,” said Mr. Costolo, “It’s a different way of architecting search, going through all tweets of all time. You can’t just put three engineers on it.”
