YouTube has bought the online social-bookmarking service Delicious from Yahoo for an undisclosed sum.
The announcement was made by YouTube foundes Chad Hurley and Steve Chen , who have recently founded a new Internet firm called Avos.
They said in a statement that their “vision for Delicious is to continue to provide the same great service users love and to make the site even easier and more fun to save, share, and discover the Web’s ‘tastiest’ content.”
Delicious will now become part of Avos as part of the deal.
Delicious, a service that enables users to store and share particular Web sites, was acquired by Yahoo in 2005.
Yahoo, which has sought to streamline operations under CEO Carol Bartz, disclosed late last year that the service would not be part of its long-term plans.
In December, Delicious said it was “actively thinking about the future of Delicious and we believe there is a home outside the company that would make more sense for the service and our users.”
Hurley and Chen sold YouTube to Google for over $1.6 billion, only 18 months after it was founded.
The pair said Wednesday that, “As creators of the largest online video platform, they have firsthand experience enabling millions of users to share their experiences with the world.”
“We’re excited to work with this fantastic community and take Delicious to the next level,” Hurley, who is serving as Avos’s CEO, said in the statement.
Hurley and Chen noted that Avos is located in San Mateo, Calif., “blocks away from where they started YouTube.”

It’s not YouTube that bought Delicious, it’s had Hurley and Steve Chen as you have said. Your headline is misleading.

Agreed, it should read “YouTube founders buys Delicious…”
