John Lewis Christmas ad: Student’s coursework mistaken for real deal

A student’s video coursework has been mistaken for this year’s John Lewis Christmas advert, getting received almost 500,000 views after it was uploaded to YouTube earlier this year.

The student’s video, entitled The Snowglobe, was created in just two short weeks – went viral after it was uploaded on YouTube.

It tells the story of a snowman trapped inside a snow globe, who spots a real snowman outside and longs to be with him.

Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Nick admitted that it only cost him a few snacks and drinks, while the department store’s newest commercial is rumoured to have set them back a staggering £7 million.

Revealing that he was asked to analyse John Lewis’ festive ads by his A-level media studies teacher, before spending “two stressful weeks” perfecting the one minute 25 second clip.

Nick commented: “It went crazy. It got to 30,000 hits and then it started going up very quickly. You hear about things going viral…”
