Driverless cars: 40% want to get on board

Not everyone is enthusiastic about driverless cars, with just four in ten people saying they are interesting in getting on board one in the future, according to new research.

The study, from Global Web Index, revealed some important age-based patterns. The 25-34 age bracket is currently the most enthusiastic about using self-driving cars, with interest then falling directly in line with age to hit a low of 27% among 55-64s.

The regional figures are also subject to some substantial variation. APAC tops the list, with 44% here seeing appeal in these cars. Internet users in the Middle East and Africa express a similar level of interest, but their North American and European counterparts come in more than 10 points behind.

Still, with interest not dipping much below the 30% mark across any of the age or regional breaks, it’s clear that driverless cars could easily find an early adopter audience.
