Apple is speeding up its electric car project, making it a “committed project” within its organisation and setting a target ship date for 2019, according to a news report.
The Wall Street Journal cites “people familiar with the matter” stating that Apple has dramatically expanded the team working on the Apple car – codenamed Titan.
However, Apple’s vehicle won’t be entirely automatic as many people believed, although the company’s ultimate objective is still to put a self-driving car on the road eventually.
Reports on the Apple electric car surfaced back in February 2015, but a proposed release date and the electric vehicle division growing seem to have confirmed the rumours.
It is suggested that 2019 may be an optimistic date, however. “It isn’t uncommon for a project of this size and complexity to miss ship-date deadlines,” said WSJ. “People familiar with the project said there is skepticism within the team that the 2019 target is achievable.”
