New mobile boss at Rubicon Project

Advertising automation company Rubicon Project has recruited Paul Gubbins to lead the growth of its mobile project across EMEA.

Joining from mobile demand-side platform (DSP) StrikeAd he will be responsible for both helping leading publishers across the region to safely, effectively and efficiently monetise their mobile advertising inventory as well as further developing relationships with agency trading desks, mobile DSPs and mobile-focused ad networks.
Gubbins, who joined StrikeAd as the company’s first employee and now manages their sales team, will draw on his 2.5 years of mobile experience to counsel Rubicon Project clients and prospects on the most effective mobile monetisation strategies, including Real-Time Bidding (RTB) and private marketplaces, to ensure that each ad impression is sold through the best channel for the highest price possible.
Reporting into Senior Vice-President and General Manager of Rubicon Project International, Jay Stevens, Gubbins will bring a wealth of industry knowledge and contacts as well as ten years of publisher-side experience gained at Reuters, Future Publishing, Independent News and Media, CityAM and Euromoney as well as Unanimis.
Commenting on the appointment, Jay Stevens, SVP and General Manager, International, Rubicon Project, explains, “Paul Gubbins helped to launch the world’s first mobile DSP so he brings great insight into the needs of mobile agencies, trading desks and advertisers. He combines this with a deep understanding of the programmatic landscape and publisher-side experience garnered at leading brands, most of which are existing clients for us with programmatic display. He is just the person we need to accelerate the adoption of mobile RTB on the REVV platform across Europe.”
Paul Gubbins, Head of Mobile, EMEA, adds, “Rubicon Project works with publishers that collectively reach over ninety per cent of the online audience which are seeing a seismic shift in their audience consumption habits. The company has a huge opportunity and is uniquely placed to answer the markets demands for premium transparent supply that is compliant, data-enriched and automated.
“Some publishers are reporting up to 50% of their audience accessing their content via mobile devices so I am really looking forward to working with both our publishers and demand partners across Europe to develop the premium private marketplaces of tomorrow that will deliver increased revenue for mobile publishers and optimise their first party data in a controlled environment, whilst proving the value of mobile advertising to brand resulting in increased advertising budgets.”
Gubbins joined StrikeAd after a year at Unanimis, which followed three years at Reuters where he began in digital sales and went on to head up Reuter’s Vertical Audience Network. This followed a year at Telegraph Media Group, as well as a year at City A.M. and a year at Independent News and Media. Prior to that he spent two years at Future Publishing. He began his career with a year at Euromoney followed by a year at Sundial Magazines and studies for a law degree in his spare time.
Last year, Rubicon Project acquired San Francisco-based MobSmith and launched REVV for Mobile, which enables publishers to sell mobile ad inventory through both direct and indirect sales channels. REVV for Mobile builds on REVV, Rubicon Project’s real-time trading platform, providing a single platform and marketplace for the buying and selling of both online display and mobile advertising inventory.
