Half of Instagram users now come from Android

Photo app Instagram has revealed that half of its users now come from Android, just one year after launching on the Google-owned mobile operating system.

The Facebook-owned firm announced in February that it had reached the 100 million monthly active user mark.
This implies that Android mobile managed to generate at least 50 million users within a year.
Instagram’s team lead for Android Phillip McAllister said in a blog post it is “working hard to make the [Android] app fast and easy to use” and is “dedicated to always bringing you the best Instagram experience possible”.
While it’s keen on improving its Android app, the firm has not revealed plans for an iPad version.
The release of devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One could also see Instagram’s Android adoption grow, as users snap up the respective flagship devices.
