A new app, called ‘Hater’ has gone live, letting users share their grievances rather than post about all their favourite things.
Instead of a like button, users are encouraged to ‘hate’ friends posts and pictures to share their dislike of everyday fristrations, such as bad weather, traffic delays and long queues.
Like Instagram, users have a feed where they can share text-based “rants,” upload or take pictures and tag their friends or followers.
Others can share in the misery, contributing their own pain points and bonding over the mutual dislikes.
The most hated items are bubble up to the top of the popular lists, providing a real-time feed about things people hate.
The app was created by deloper Jake Banks, under the premise that great things can happen when people band together and hate the negative things in the world, such as cancer and war.
Hater’s app also gives users the option to pull an image of something they hate from other sites and to post to the service using an alter ego.
Speaking to technology blog Mashable, Banks said: “It’s a little more self-deprecating and a little more fun. You’re sitting at work, working a 12-hour shift and you go on Facebook and you see your friend from high school is on his third vacation of the month. He’s taking pictures of his food and all that. Now you can snapshot it and Hate it.”
Hater has been released on the iOS App Store, with an Android version set to launch in the near future.
