Social media data shows spread of Norovirus and Flu across UK

With the cold snap continuing in Britain, it’s no surprise that a great number of us have been struck down by either the flu or Norovirus. New data from Crimson Hexagon’s social media analysis platform ForSight found that 49% of Facebook and Twitter users talking about the flu expressed having had the Winter Vomiting Bug or the flu this season.

The ForSight platform has 175 billion posts stored in its database, and analyses around 300 million new posts per day.
Crimson Hexagon’s ForSight platform analysed 145,083 social media posts related to flu / Norovirus conversations and found that:
– 49% of Facebook and Twitter users expressed having the Norovirus or the flu
– 16% of users provided strategies and ideas around avoiding the bug
– 15% of users shared news items about the flu or Norovirus
– 15% joked about ‘man flu’ and other similar humour
– 5% shared comments about friends, family or colleagues being ill
