Gumtree debuts Android app

Gumtree.com has announced the launch of its first official app for Android in the UK, and an update to its existing iOS app.

With more than 1.5 million ads currently live on the site, it allows Android users to access the UK’s number one classified website via an app from their smartphones for the first time.
The free Android app lets users browse the 1.5 million currently ads live on Gumtree.com.
They can also contact sellers directly from the app with a call, SMS or email, can create their own ‘favourites’ list.
Meanwhile the Gumtree iOS app has also been updated to include ‘Post an ad’ feature.
Initially launched in February 2012, the iPhone update offers a seller functionality that now enables consumers to post ads in most categories as well as browsing them.
Hamish Stone, Head of Marketing at Gumtree.com, said: “Our 8 million customers are busier than ever, so the new Gumtree app for Android lets even more users search the site on-the-go. Our free iOS app has seen over 2 million downloads, and so we’re delighted that these customers will now be able to post ads too.”
