Right to reply: Online universities are just the start of digital learning

Last week saw a consortium of UK Universities announce plans to put a select number of higher education courses online for free. Olof Schybergson, Founder and CEO, Fjord, looks at the growing influence digital services are having on distance learning.

The news that UK universities will start to provide higher education and courses via computers, tablets or smartphones is just the start of digital services fuelling learning and using technology to provide a more individual learning experience, and will only become more prominent in the coming years.
We believe this will involve highly personalised and adaptive learning materials, and tablets and smartphones are a perfect platform to provide this user experience. In addition, as technology is introduced into education, we’ll see the methods of delivery move from one-to-many to many-to-one, and ultimately, this kind of real-time adaptive learning support will transition into the broader business context.
It’s great to see that the next stage of transformation in learning is already taking shape as UK universities rise to the international challenge and introduce the collaborative online platform.
