The move marks the first overhaul of a Yahoo product since the firm’s chief executive Marissa Mayer took the control over in July.
The relaunch includes new versions of its Yahoo Mail for smartphones and tablets, in addition to a revamped version of its Web-based mail for PC users which has less ancillary features, while claims to offer enhanced performance.
Mayer said: “You’ve told us loud and clear that you want fewer distractions when it comes to email. You want to quickly login, communicate, and get on with your day.
Yahoo’s chief executive is aiming to develop a coherent mobile strategy for the firm and intends for at least half of the firm’s technical workforce to be employed on mobile products.
Yahoo also released an update to its mobile email application for smartphones powered by the Android operating system, in addition to the firm’s first stand-alone app for Apple’s iPhone.
