Google slashes cloud storage prices to undercut Amazon

Google has updated it cloud storage in Europe; dropping compute prices by 5% and storage prices by 20%.

The move sees it upping the number of virtual machine sizes available on its platform across the US and Europe from four to 40.
In addition to the new instance types, the company trimmed the price of its Google Compute Engine service by about 5 per cent and reduced the price of its Google Cloud Storage by 20 per cent.
The company also launched a beta program that provides “reduced availability” storage to customers for up to 30 per cent off, but without a service-level agreement (SLA).
The timing of Google’s price reduction announcement comes two days before Amazon is set to hold its first-ever user conference named AWS re: Invent in Las Vegas.
