Mobile commerce trends: UK mobile shopping sales ‘quadruple in just two years’

More than two-thirds (64%) of smartphone owners are now using their mobile device to shop online, a number that had quadrupled in just two years.

The research, from eDigitalResearch and Portaltech Reply, track the growth and development of smartphone devices in mobile retail commerce.
This study, the third of its kind, found that the growing mobile trends we’ve witnessed in the past two years are now irreversible meaning retailers must have a comprehensive mCommerce strategy in place to cope with the demand from mobile customers.
Other key findings include:
• 84% of smartphone owners have used their devices to browse websites, a number that has almost tripled since the first set of results in 2010.
• The number of smartphone owners using mobile apps to browse has significantly increased year-on-year.
• One third (31%) of smartphone owners will use their devices more to shop and browse over the next 12 months.
