With many users now having spent half a decade using Facebook, the social network has taken a more long-term and visual approach to the way it displays profile data. But is it really more usable? Has it managed to avoid a privacy outcry this time? We look at the video evidence…
When it launched back in 2006, Facebook initially just displayed the basics (your name, photo, school, location, and the all important ‘status’). Over years it’s evolved to give a better reflection of your personality.
Before the recent revamp, all the posts you share on Facebook were stored, but only a small part of that data was immediately visible on a users Wall. To view earlier posts you needed to click on to older posts tab at the bottom of the page over and over again to get the data.
With Facebook Timeline you can now share your story with your friends and still have all your old memories there on your page without having to search for them in your older posts.
The Facebook Timeline is broader than the traditional profile page and is a lot more visual. It has a cover photo that you choose and as you scroll down you can see your posts, and photos listed chronologically.
You choose what features on you timeline and is not controlled by Facebook, you can add apps to it as well. You can add ‘favourites’ that doubles their size for the more important occasions like your graduation, or you can hide things all together.
