US ad spend up 23%: Search still driving success

Online advertising in the US continues to break new ground, growing to a record $14.9 billion in revenues during the first half of 2011, according to new data.

The latest Internet Advertising Revenue Report study, from the IAB, found that search advertising lead the way, generating $7.3bn in revenue during the first half of the year.
That $14.9 billion spent by US Internet advertisers during the first six months of this year represents a 23.2 percent year-over-year increase, eclipsing last year’s first-half record of $12.1 billion in revenue.
Search accounted for 49 percent of all revenues. The $5.7 billion in first-half revenues last year accounted for 47 percent of all revenues.
In Q2, search accounted for 49 percent of al revenues, or $3.8 billion, up 29 percent from Q2 2010 when search totaled $2.9 billion.
