Adobe Systems is planning to launch an online museum that will display and preserve digital media works, as well as encourage art and innovation in digital forms.
The Adobe Museum of Digital Media (AMDM) will launch on on 6 October, and will provide a forum for commentary on how digital media influences culture and society.
It will feature programmes and works in visual art, film, performance, design, architecture and social media, and will engage curators and artists to develop content and programmes.
“Adobe works with a wide range of creative professionals every day. We see extraordinary digital projects that take advantage of current technology and point to where creative minds will take digital media in the future,” said Ann Lewnes, senior vice-president of global marketing at Adobe.
The online museum, with free membership for visitors, attempts to replicate the sensory experience of a traditional, physical museum on the web using a three-stage interaction — at the museum exterior, museum interior and a viewing pod from which to experience the exhibitions.
The AMDM inaugural exhibition titled “Valley”, by American artist Tony Oursler, explores society’s relationship with the internet.
