UK music streaming service we7 announced that it has exceeded 6.5 million licensed songs for its music platform.
The site currently has over 3 million UK users and it announced earlier in the year that it was the first company to demonstrate that the music on-demand ad-funded model can work in the mainstream market.
In August 2009, we7 had around 3,000,000 of songs on its site, showing an increase of 116% in the last 12 months.
Commenting on the milestone, Steve Purdham, CEO, we7, said: “We have learnt that the quality of the music database was far more important than the size, and having the right songs has always been better for our audience than simply having lots of songs. However we are ecstatic that we can continue to increase the depth of the music for our users and that we can embrace more artists and labels, paying them a fair amount for every song that is played.”
