Almost 100m Europeans are expected to own a mobile phone by then and 30% of all internet users will use them to access the Internet.
The survey revealed similar trends throughout Europe with users in all countries citing web search engines, branded sites and email as their main interests. Differences also emerged. Germans are twice as likely to buy books online as Dutch people, Swedes are half as likely to buy airline tickets as British people and the French are comparatively unlikely to buy anything at all online.
The spread of internet usage will also boost European PC ownership. Almost half of European households will own a PC by 2003 and PC penetration in Sweden will reach a massive 72 % of homes. Mobile phones will be the primary means of access for only three percent of Europeans.
